Red Skelton papers, 1943-1965.

Papers of Richard Bernard "Red" Skelton, an American comedian who worked in vaudeville, radio, and television. During his radio career, which lasted from 1937-1952, Skelton performed on the Rudy Vallee Show and the Avalon Show, but primarily on his own weekly variety show titled The Red Skelton Show, which first aired on NBC and later moved to CBS. From 1952-1971, he hosted the show on television and enjoyed high ratings. The collection primarily consists of scripts for the Jack Kirkwood Show, 1943-1954, and related materials. These are exclusively indexed. Kirkwood was a contemporary of Skelton's and the two often worked together. Also included are scripts from the Red Skelton Show, 1951-1965, and manuscripts by Mr. Skelton.
